Notes from Steve
I went into my backyard and stared at a big tree that didn't have leaf buds appearing yet … and decided it must be dead. I'm not a patient person. I always do this, and I'm always wrong. My friend Carol (in South Dakota - she was an administrator of a hospital south of mine and hilarious) would always suddenly decide at a conference that she needed to change her flight back earlier, so she'd get all flustered and go standby. It never worked, and she would invariably end up on her regularly scheduled flight. It was a case of "borrowed anxiety". I do this all the time. I'm always worried about something (usually stupid) and make myself nervous for no reason. My last name is French in origin, so I'm going to try to adopt a more "laissez-faire"* attitude. C’est la vie.
Speaking of French, I took four years of French in school and have no ability whatsoever to speak or understand the language. The one phrase I learned was "Avez-vous un oncle Bob?" Which means "do you have an Uncle Bob?" This never comes in handy. That and the word for library (bibliotheque) - if I were in Paris … I wouldn't be looking for a library.
My vibe for the summer then is to be relaxed and let things happen. And learn a new sentence in French that will be of some benefit (probably bathroom-related).
Oh, and May the Fourth be with you.
*Daily Life: A laid-back, "go with the flow" attitude where a person does not intervene in situations. Let it be.
