- Internal Medicine
At Iowa Specialty Hospital, our Internal Medicine Providers specialize in providing care for all of the major organ systems including treating illnesses ranging from colds or the flu to more complicated diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.
Internal medicine is a medical specialty that deals with the diagnosis and prevention of disease in adults. An internist (not to be confused with a medical intern) is a medical doctor who has undergone additional training in this medical specialty. Though an internist may be a primary care physician, he or she should not be confused with other types of primary care providers, such as a "family doctor" or "general practitioner," as they may also include aspects of obstetrics, pediatrics, and surgery, which internal medicine does not.
