Notes from Steve
I saw this commercial or TikTok or something where the guy (or gal - I don’t remember) was saying something like I basically eat the same four meals. I thought - “well, that’s boring - where’s their creativity” … then I thought about it and thought “that’s me”. Sad.
Other videos were of people going to the grocery store and always ending up with the same items. That’s me too. I have my favorite sweatshirts and favorite blankets. I choose things that I know. I was thinking that when I go through Des Moines, I will always go on 235 as opposed to 80/35, not necessarily because it’s easier (they’re both full of crazy drivers), but because I know and am more comfortable with that route. My degree of comfort dictates my existence.
But the world isn’t made for those who crave comfort. Change is the name of the game. Those who embrace change and all the uncertainty will probably be more successful.
My coach used to talk to me all the time about “tolerations” (the things in life we “tolerate” because we just don’t want to deal with them* at the moment). If we creatively deal with our messes and our routines - I guarantee our lives will be richer and fuller, and probably more successful. I’ll start … tomorrow.
