Notes from Steve
I went to my grandniece’s 3-year-old birthday party yesterday. We had the Disney-themed cake and pizza. She’s fairly quiet - I think she’s scheming as to how to control the situation. Or - she’s just a chill little kid. Either is fine. (Her uncle David was that chill kid back when he was that age - so that’s what I have to look forward to … when I’m 91.)
T.S. Eliot wrote - “April is the cruellest month”* … I always look forward to this month. I dream of April in February and count down the minutes. I now need May - I need sun and less rain and weird fluctuations in the temps. I also have this need to clean out my garage - I bought two new water hose caddies the other day. Planned - not on a whim. (“Who is this person?”)
With spring comes the need to get things done and prepare for the year. The way I get anything done is by making lists. I have lists all over the house. I was talking to a friend about building a house someday, and she said something about a “vision board” and posting ideas. Yeah … that’s not going to happen. My lists and plans need to be less formal and left all over the house on scratch paper. If I have to plan my plans - nothing will get done.
With this in mind - I will be flying around and getting things done - April in my book isn’t “cruel” - it’s just scheming and getting things ready for party season (summer).
*a. that’s how he spelled “cruelest” and b. “T.S. Eliot curses April for its cruelty in bringing back to life things and thoughts that were best left dead and buried.” Odd.
