Notes from Steve
When my phone updates or my computer is restarted for whatever reason, or someone works at my house and my dish towels are in a different place, or something is in my garbage that shouldn’t be there - I have anxiety. I need to relax, I suppose. I’ve lived alone too long, maybe, but if something is out of whack or where it shouldn’t be - does this bother everyone??*
There’s this old adage about a frog in a pot of boiling water (you all know it - it hops out if thrown in, but if it goes from cold to boiling, it’ll stay and get boiled {ick} … basically, if you see a dangerous situation, you’ll probably avoid it. If you’re stuck in it - good luck.) Since I have the experience of being a Boy Scout in my background - the motto “be prepared” is etched into my soul. I’d like to think I’m like a ninja - always watching for predators (I’m not; fyi). However, it’s a good thing to be conscious and aware of the dangers in life. Bad things happen when you are not paying attention.
Changing batteries in your smoke detector, monitoring CO levels and knowing the radon levels in your basement, watching for toilet leaks, scanning your bank accounts, knowing your credit card balances and charges, doing the regular maintenance on your cars … etc., etc... Life is full of basic chores, and you can’t ignore any of them because you’ll pay for ignoring them (for sure) in the future.
*There’s a fine line (probably) between not being bothered and being hyper freaked about everything.**
**It’s probably some sort of coping mechanism. As my eyesight gets worse and my hearing goes, I unconsciously need to compensate by noticing everything.
