Notes from Steve
I just got back last night at midnight from a tropical vacation*. It was fine, but I really hate traveling. I don’t like airports, customs (international travel), sitting in an airplane seat … etc. Once I’m there, I’m good (the one superpower I would request is teleportation). I told this to my friend and she said, “You better really like home then” … I thought about it, and I do. I love Iowa.
Diets, vacations, and winter … they help us appreciate. On the first day of travel, on our way to our Airbnb, we were starving. None of us ate anything the whole day - we were running in the airport from gate to connections and didn’t have a chance to eat* and after a 3-hour ordeal getting our bags and rental car, we thought we’d better stop for food on the way. Advice that I always try and tell myself - never shop for food when you are starving. It was a crazy “grab everything and who knows … we might need Jell-O and lime mayonnaise” moment.***
Hey - coming back, I noticed everyone is dealing with some sort of construction mess. Renovation is never fun, but it is necessary for a new final product. I’ve talked to many of our joint patients over the years, and they always say, “Oh, I should have had that done years ago - I just lived with unnecessary pain” - same with the reno projects … life will be so much better after. Hang in there!
*People used to complain when I’d write about vacationing - like I was bragging or something. It’s really not that often that I travel anymore, so you’re getting what you’re getting.
**They only offer dry pretzels on the planes anymore.
***I really did have a great time. Time spent with good friends is time well spent. We cooked and laughed and talked and just hung out. I told them I’ve just been so busy the last couple of months, forgive me if I just sit and stare into space … but pretty much everyone felt the same and so the vibe was set. ~chillaxing~
