Notes from Steve
I remember years ago we had an older guy who used to live in The Meadows, and he sat like a high schooler in the upholstered chairs. I think he felt like a young person. No judgment - it was just interesting to me. Yesterday, I was telling someone that I have no appropriate casual clothes anymore because the ones I have aren’t made for a guy north of 60 years of age. “Act your age” and “dress your age” are on a constant loop in my mind. In my fifties, I didn’t have this concern, but I do now.
I saw this thing on TikTok where some gal was considering not dating a guy because he wore socks with his Birkenstocks. I always wear socks with my Birks.* I guess if her standards won’t allow her to flex to “socks with sandals” … her loss. What else? I guess I should be kind of paranoid that I’m doing something that people talk about … like am I wearing something goofy and no one will tell me? Hmmm.
Ok, this is my new rule - “the key to growing old successfully is to embrace your weirdness … let your freak flags fly.” Bottom line in life - if it doesn’t affect others and you want to wear your stupid pants** or sit on your couch like a teenager without a spine or you want to wear socks with your sandals, go for it.
Life is too short to worry about how others are judging you.
*This is a thing to avoid now? Nobody told me. And for the record, I don’t plan on changing my behavior.
**skinny jeans - I won’t wear them outside of my house. You’re welcome.
