Notes from Steve
There is this really cool little “farm” stand/shop outside of Story City on the west side of Highway 69. “Slim” was the name of the last owner - he was a tall, thin farmer guy who’d always be excited to have you try a slice of peach. The family who has it now has pretty much kept up the same awesome service and also added a ton of Iowa-produced foods. It’s a gem of a stop, and if you get a chance, stop; you won’t regret it.
I was thinking about busy times and non-busy times. Whether my glass is slightly full or overflowing - my goal is to handle it the same. I find that I am much calmer and focused when busy. If my calendar is open - I tend to fumble over details and flub stuff up. (Like if I’m really tired, I’ll lie in bed thinking about how tired I am and how I should sleep.) My Jeep has this function where it can get taller for whatever reason - but when going fast, it moves to “aerodynamic height,” meaning it’ll get shorter and more efficient. That’s me - I put my head down when going fast and get short*.
Sometimes - though, in our rush to be efficient, we forget to stop and enjoy the things. Things like farm stands and ice cream shops - people like Slim and the friendly folks who are on the bike paths and on the sidewalks. Regardless of how busy and efficient you are, don’t get too short and miss out on the good things in life.
Oh, and happy summer - the best season of the year! (Anyone see the lightning bugs yet??)
*Some might refer to it as “rude,” but it’s efficient communication.
