Notes from Steve
As you are reading this, the ISH Ragbrai Team is somewhere east of Red Oak, Iowa, on our way to Atlantic, Iowa (assuming you are reading this Monday morning). For me - this represents my 8th week-long ride starting in 2016 (Ragbrai was cancelled in 2020). I used to hear people talk about the ride, and they were so loyal and fond of their memories, and I thought they were crazy. Everything about the long, hot days sounded less than fun … until I rode it.
And it was a good thing, and my life changed.
Too often, we “don’t” because it doesn’t sound fun/good/like something I’d do/seems uncomfortable. Then we hear stories about how fun, good, something I’d really like to try, and yes, uncomfortable (but the other things make up for it), and then we have regrets. I don’t want regrets, if I can help it.
The hospital is starting a new group for newbie runners (experienced runners are welcome). I hear a lot of people say they want to get healthier. I hear them say, “I’d like to do that, but …” My response is, “Just do it”*. If you fail, at least you tried. Life is too short to wish and regret.
Just do it.
*I have that sign above the door in my office.
