Notes from Steve

June 17, 2024

I’ve been playing music for most of my life.  I was talking with a friend this last weekend about flow.  Groove … harmony … balance … do you have an activity or something you do that you’ll look back on the time spent and ask yourself, “Where did the time go?”  This is being lost in the flow.  When I’m playing music - I wonder how I spent all that time strumming my guitar or ukulele without thought to anything else.

Shouldn’t this be our goal - getting lost in the music (or whatever your flow is)?  To me, this is heaven on earth.  I think most musicians understand this - getting lost in the music is our end goal.

Marj Chipp, in nursing, asked me what my bucket list for the summer was.  I told her I do everything I want, so I don’t have a bucket list - she said I was a buzzkill and pointed to her window that reads, “What’s on your bucket list.”  So, I’m thinking - what else gives me flow?  What should I plan on doing that will make my heart swell - that I will get happily lost and fulfilled?

If I’m wondering, “Where’s the time go?” … then I guess I’m doing something right.
