Notes from Steve
I sat and stared at the wall yesterday for 6 hours after everybody left from Easter dinner. I ran a 5k on Saturday at dawn, rode in the afternoon, and drove back to Clarion so I could wake up at 4:30 a.m. to prepare dinner for 14 people. What? Who am I? This was too much. Then it stormed like crazy, and ants invaded my kitchen. I’m taking this as a sign from God.
Lately, I’ve been telling everyone, “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.” After my 5K (slowest in history, thank you very much) - I wrote a post saying I don’t want to run longer distances but be a faster and more efficient runner.* I think I could limp out a 10K or longer, but to be as good as I can, doing what I know works for a 5K (barely, but I didn’t stop) … is a fairly decent goal.
When I rededicated myself to this hospital in 2001**, it was from the same thought process. I could slowly move up the corporate chain and run bigger and bigger hospitals and systems … or I could focus my efforts into making this the best ever. We did that.
With this in mind, I fully expect to come in first place in a 5K in the near future. Stay tuned.
*Basically, look like I know what I’m doing.
**Rural hospital CEOs stay on an average of 3.4 years and usually move up to bigger hospitals.
