Notes from Steve
I was thinking today about making decisions. Big things - like buying something expensive. Frequently, I’ll buy something, and then the next week - it’ll go on sale, or I’ll find something else I like better. (I have huge menu envy where I’m always jealous of something someone else ordered. Always …) I’m trying to figure out how to be happy with my decision. This is really hard.
Pastor Chuck once preached a sermon on “doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith.” It took me a while to understand what this meant. Essentially, if you allow stress or other people’s opinions to make you question your actions/decisions - then you will not move forward. You will be paralyzed by fear and doubt. Taking a leap of faith, regardless of the “potential” obstacles, is how things get done.
The other day, I was at a meeting where people were throwing out ideas. The ideas were coming fast and furious, and little by little, as the discussion ensued, there were a lot of throwing stones on why things wouldn’t work as opposed to why it might work. I pondered this and thought, “What if we said - yes and how? - as opposed to no, that’s impossible.” … how would this little simple twist of outlook change the world?
What if our threats became our opportunities and our weaknesses became our strengths? Wouldn’t life be grand? (The answer is yes.)
