Notes from Steve
“There’s Steve, standing in the corner, grinning like an idiot”. This is my goal.
When I think about this, my thoughts go to feeling confident and happy that all is well. People are having fun - the groove is apparent and working. (long, deep sigh) Hanging out on vacation - the afternoon sun is coming to an end; the music is on … someone just handed me a cold drink, and everyone is getting along and smiling. What more could you ask for?
Today is the first day of spring (I’m writing this on March 19) - my favorite day of the year.* This time of year brings so much possibility. It’s rebirth, new growth, and plans for bike rides and outdoor events. It’s the promise of long days and warm nights … it’s simply the best.
I spoke this week at orientation, and I always do the same speech. But for me, it’s like reliving a great story … I remember the laughter and the success and the hard work year after year after year. There were tough times as well, but I don’t remember those as clearly. I remember times like at the parties - grinning like an idiot while standing back watching everybody on the dance floor laughing with their friends … thinking, “This is what it’s all about.”
*I’m finding that I have a lot of favorite days of the year. It’s like having a lot of best friends; this is never a bad thing.
