Notes from Steve
There is an old saying about March - in like a “lion or lamb” out like a “lamb or lion.” The blizzard counts as coming in like a lion. It was awful. And the wind was crazy - my house was 100% surrounded by snow. I’d never seen that before. Now - today (Monday the 10th), it’s supposed to be in the 70s. This is why I love March - you just never know. Crazy.
March is kind of like that friend who brings a dish to share at a formal dinner party where no one asks them to bring a dish to share. Still, the weird combination of beets and spam is definitely interesting and is the talk of the dinner. March is like that, and when it’s over - that’s fine, too … because a little bit of March goes a long, long way.*
March 21st is the March Meltdown. Originally, the Meltdown (started in 2007) was a celebration for the first year of orthopedics at the Clarion hospital (then Wright Medical Center). It was a wild party - swinging from the rafters (… literally, and we got in trouble). The name Meltdown came from a meltdown party that was always held at the end of February at the Hotel Fort Des Moines, and the band the Fishheads played - to celebrate the end of winter. Our Meltdown just kept going. It’s always a good, kind of interesting party to celebrate March, the end of winter, and other stuff (spam/beets and all).
*Like Christmas with your fun, but weird cousins.
