Notes from Steve

February 26, 2024

I was riding my Peloton bike yesterday, and the trainer was playing a Miley Cyrus song, “Mother’s Daughter.”  She said it talked about confidence and not letting other people pull you down (and a ton of f-words).  I can never understand lyrics, so I looked them up.*  What I took from this – if you are held up and told that you can do it, do it – don’t let others pull you down.

Then I thought … this is kind of like the rising tide. If you have someone in your corner telling you that you can make it and be awesome (and you listen to them), you’ll be awesome.  And if someone tries to pull you down (and you allow it), then you’ll do worse than your potential.

Ronald Reagan famously once pointed out that he surrounded himself with only the highest performers possible because it made him look and perform better.  If you start with a desire to be your best and then surround yourself with rock stars … then the odds are that you will be a rock star as well.

*My mama always told me that I'd make it
That I'd make it, so I made it
I put my back into it, my heart in it
So I did it, yeah, I did it.
