Notes from Steve

February 24, 2025

Somehow the universe aligned and recognized my absolute disgust with the month of February and planned two trips away from Iowa for me this year.  I’m fulfilling a bucket list trip this past week riding my bike from Miami to Key West in Florida (February 17th-24th).  I’ve never been, and since I’m writing this in advance - the trip is incredibly wonderful.*

I saw some posts on Facebook by people who wanted more snow.  There weren’t a lot of people or many posts, but my patience only allows for “snow love” on the week prior to Christmas; after Christmas - it’s a nuance.  “Jeez Steve, you’re negative today”.  Yes, I realize it may come across as negative, but snow is a killer.  People slip, cars slip, it’s blinding, and cold.  You want snow - move to the mountains or look at a picture.  I’m actually caring for you … my love for your health status should be obvious.

Speaking of health status, I crippled myself in December, and it still hurt the second week in February.  Janel in PT saw me early this week and drug me down to therapy for appointment.  I was expecting major surgery and had googled all the horrible things it could be.  Colby Ruiter, ISH physical therapist, worked on my hamstring for 45 minutes and cured me.**  Next, we’re going to work on my running and improving my gait.  Dang.  (Actually, this February is going surprisingly well.)

*I’m a strong believer in jinxing myself so there you go …

**For a strong hypochondriac - this was somewhat of buzzkill.

*I told him – “I don’t have time for that.” I did tip him well when he let me off.
