Notes from Steve

February 17, 2025

I vacationed last week in Cancun. It was beautiful, and a good time was had by all. I came back through Minneapolis on my way to Des Moines Saturday night. Because it was international, you had to claim your bag, which you immediately put back on a conveyor belt to your final destination. A. The flight was delayed by 45 minutes, and then B. the conveyor belt broke on the luggage delivery thing. I finally got my bag, rechecked it, did my customs stuff, and found that my Des Moines plane gate was one mile (I checked it out, and I’m not lying) from the gate I just got off. My flight was 10 minutes into boarding as I was waiting for my luggage. I flagged down one of those little cars that take people to their gates and told him to hit the gas. He was all about picking up other people.* (… ugh …) I finally got to my gate and begged them to reopen the door, and they did. A mile? Seriously? That was crazy.

I got home fine, all is well, and the vacation was great. The six guys all turned 60 this year - hence the trip. I realize that age is just a number, but someone told my friend Scott that we looked like we were in our mid-forties - which we all accepted with grace and celebrated in private.

I hope you are all doing all right surviving February. This is my worst month - always has been and always will be. I don’t anticipate ever liking this month. However, good things are coming. Like March and spring and longer days … and mattress sales … and frosted Valentine cookies … that’s it, though.

“Hey Steve, hang in there - spring is right around the corner!” Thank you.

*I told him – “I don’t have time for that.” I did tip him well when he let me off.
