Amy's Reflections
"We can’t be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea." ~ C. Joybell
Although change is often uncomfortable for most of us, it is often exactly what we need to push us toward the next goal or phase in our lives. I have always admired the constant learners that I have worked with over the years. Their dedication to expanding their knowledge and their excitement in learning new things has always inspired me. That inspiration has led me to enroll in a program to complete my master’s degree in Healthcare Administration with a certificate in Leadership. I can honestly say this has been one of the scariest leaps I have made. It has been many years since I was in college, and a lot has changed. Although the classes are challenging, I am grateful for my work experience at Iowa Specialty Hospital, as it is the foundation for all of my classes. I can’t imagine trying to tackle this goal without the lessons learned over the past 25 years working in healthcare.
I have been fortunate to have experienced many changes in healthcare during my career, and I have learned lessons with each obstacle we tackled together that made us that much more prepared for the next obstacle. I am grateful for the teams that I have been a part of, and I am most proud of the culture we have been able to create and sustain over the years of making our patients a priority. Thank you to all of you who have been a part of my journey. May the winds of change continue to move us in new directions while our culture keeps us rooted to our mission.
