Amy's Reflections

February 13, 2023

I am looking forward to the Super Bowl this weekend not necessarily because I follow either of the teams, but because I enjoy the commercials, the halftime show, and planning the food for our family. These are traditions just like holiday traditions, and ones I remember from my childhood. My mother was an avid sports fan and loved to watch football and basketball. I have definitely retained some of that from my childhood, and will look forward to watching not just the Super Bowl, but the Iowa Hawkeye women’s basketball team this weekend as well.

I often wonder what traditions or habits my kids will remember or carry forward from their childhood. I hope they carry many things forward, but most of all I hope that Rick and I have taught them to be generous. It is important to give to others whether that is a hug on a bad day, a high-five to help celebrate, or sharing your time and talents. One of the things I love the most about healthcare is seeing the impact on our patients with all of you being generous with your gifts. Thank you for making a difference in this world. Generosity is one of the foundations of healthcare and is instrumental in changing lives every day.
