Amy's Reflections

January 20, 2025

We are already halfway through January. We have definitely had some wicked cold weather lately, but I try to keep it all in perspective. When visiting with Dr. Eibes this week, he shared that people don’t have to run their cars in Arizona to warm them up. I challenged back that I bet they run them in the summertime to cool their cars down, though. It is all in your perspective of the situation.

One of our greatest gifts is the ability to put ourselves in the other person’s shoes and see the situation from their perspective. This is typically much easier to say than to do, but my challenge for you this week is to put this into practice at least once a day. Pick those moments when emotions are running high and try to see the situation from a different perspective. This is often the key to successfully navigating tense situations, especially in healthcare, where people don’t feel well and are scared. Perspective goes a long way in bridging the communication gap in these situations, and I think our teams do this better than most. However, practice makes perfect, so make an effort this week to flip your perspective.
