A Message from the CEO - July 2023
It’s July. July is the county fair to a lot of people. To others, it’s family vacations. To me - it’s RAGBRAI. The 500-mile trek across Iowa on a bicycle. Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics has a team that has been going for the last 7 years, and this year is no exception. There are forty (+/-) bikers in our group. We camp at friends’ and families’ houses along the way and a good time is had by all.
“What’s this have to do with Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics?” Everything. It’s a celebration of the team. ISH RAGBRAI is made up of people who work at Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics, and friends and family. Engagement. It’s about the quest for a healthy lifestyle. Riding your bike for 500 miles requires preparation and training. From a health perspective - we should be promoting this as much as possible.
Summer is indeed a special time. I love the lightning bugs in the back yard. I love summer rain showers and farmers' markets. Before I started riding - I didn’t like summer. Honestly, I didn’t do a lot in the summer because I knew it as hot and humid and uncomfortable. Now - every weekend is filled with some adventure …
This is what I want for everyone. Not necessarily the bike stuff … I want everyone to fill the nooks and crannies of their lives with happiness and adventure. Maybe it’s a new puppy or gardening or dancing or whatever brings you joy. Before you know it - life will throw you a curveball and your chance for adventure will be less.
Just do it. Find a wave and ride it.
