5 Star Rating Received from CMS
Iowa Specialty Hospital – Belmond and Iowa Specialty Hospital - Clarion have once again received a 5-star rating according to data from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Hospital Compare. Data was based from July 2020 – March 2021, and only 9 Iowa hospitals received this top-rating for patient experience.
“Achieving a 5-star rating is a true honor as in essence our patients are the ones giving us this recognition based on their feedback,” shared Steve Simonin, President & CEO of Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics. “I’m proud of our organization and the daily commitment our staff makes to provide amazing care to each and every patient.”
“I am so very proud to be associated with these organizations and the unrelenting commitment by our teams to ensure amazing care to our patients,” added Amy McDaniel, Belmond CEO. “This is truly an honor and wonderful recognition of our healthcare team and their hard work.”
To calculate the HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) star ratings, HCAHPS survey information from one hospital is compared to that from other hospitals. More stars indicate better quality care. These results from HCAHPS surveys are reported through Hospital Compare and are meant to help patients make decisions about where to receive healthcare. They also encourage hospitals to improve the quality of care they provide to patients. HCAHPS ratings allow consumers to more easily compare hospitals based on quality of care.
HCAHPS has been in use since 2006 to measure patients’ view of hospital care and includes topics like: How well nurses and doctors communicated, responsiveness of hospital staff, how clean and quiet hospital environments were, and how well patients were prepared for post-hospital settings.
Iowa Specialty Hospital offers quality healthcare in the areas of orthopedics, bariatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, and family medicine, among a wide array of other specialty services.
