I would like to formally nominate Vanessa Smith, Clinical Resource Educator, for a Daisy Nominee. On Thursday, we wrapped up our first Nurse Residency group. This is a yearlong program that focuses on best practices, on-line modules, monthly meetings and ends with each student leading a quality initiative project and then presenting it to peers and leaders. We had 8 nurses start this program last summer- little did we know our first program would be completed during a worldwide pandemic. Last week we had 6 nurses who had completed their projects (1 Nurse dropped after transitioning to another hospital, 2 presented their projects in December before moving to Texas and one has yet to present). Vanessa Smith was instrumental in the success of this program and the first year to get it going- she coordinated all the monthly meetings, mentored the nurses while they worked on projects, lead discussions related to the different learnings each month and in addition her passion for this program has lead her to represent ISH on the Iowa Online Nurse Residency Program (IONRP) board. She is a cheer leader for our nurses and wants to ensure that they are successful in their role. In addition to leading the Nurse Residency Program, she is also our liaison with several nursing schools and works hard to ensure that have a great clinical experience at ISH- often leading to clinical students applying for nursing positions within ISH. She is an asset to our team and the nursing profession.
