Thoughts from Holly

August 26, 2019

It’s almost back to school time for all!  Summer really seemed to fly by and now many families are getting back to bed time schedules and gearing up for the homework to begin.  I remember when my boys were in elementary and middle school and what a struggle it was to get back into routines for school and the focus on homework nightly.  We moved our youngest son, Alec, to college at Hawkeye Community College two weeks ago and we are adjusting to this life changing experience. We are very fortunate to be able to still see both our boys a lot as they both play golf on their respective college teams.  They will be opponents this year instead of teammates for the first time so this will be a new adventure and opportunity for all of us.

Fall is one of my favorite times of year…football, bonfires, beautiful changing colors of the leaves on trees, warm days and cool nights.  We are busy planning for our open house at the Meadows Independent Living. We have been busy giving tours, helping out new residents move in and updating some items in the commons areas.  Some of our residents have “owned” multiple projects that they would like to see changed. It has been exciting to see everyone chip in and make the Meadows Independent Living even better!!  At the Assisted Living we are looking forward to Assisted Living week from Sept. 8 – Sept. 14. We have fun activities planned for every day of the week. Some of the exciting things that we will be doing are a Broasted Chicken dinner with fresh Peach Pie, Mega Bingo with prizes, Bud base arrangement with Ann Wilde from Eagle Grove Greenhouse, POW tour in Algona, Plum Creek Winery wine tasting,  Art-U-Creative wine glass painting and many many more fun activities.

As of this writing we are very excited to announce that we only have two (2) apartments left to fill in the Meadows Assisted Living.  We still have a few in the Independent Living, but are super excited that we have four (4) new residents moving in to their new homes.  If you know of anyone that would like to come live or take a tour of The Meadows at either location please have them contact me!

As far as ISH employees, we are in the middle of completing annual evaluations at this time.  It is a great opportunity to re-recruit our employees and work collectively on our professional goals for next year.  We have such amazing staff, providers and volunteers who take exceptional care of our patients.
