The Brief by Reagan

June 7, 2018

I thought with my background the name was appropriate.

It seems as though each of the senior leaders that has been asked to write an article has started with an introduction, so I will follow suit.

I grew up in the big town of Belmond, went to college, and came back.  I know, I really ventured far, especially if you consider I received my undergraduate degree from Waldorf College in Forest City.  I have been a part of the organization for a little over eleven years now.  I started in Human Resources and now do the legal and compliance work as the Hospital Attorney and Chief Compliance Officer.
I’m married to a beautiful woman I met and started dating in high school; I didn’t want her to realize she may find better.  We have three children - two boys and one girl*.  Our kids are now 10, 8, and 6.  The time seems like it is flying by, and it won’t be long before they are all grown up.  The kids keep me on my toes and teach me patience, which I desperately need.

For those of you that don’t know, I love movies.  I like to watch, then re-watch and quote.  I especially enjoy a good comedy although there are times I struggle watching them, as I get embarrassed for the person who is making a fool of himself/herself.  It doesn’t make sense as it is a fiction; I know this, but can’t help it.  There have been times where I have randomly left the room during an embarrassing scene as I could no longer watch, and then reappear when it is over.  It is funny as I see this in my youngest daughter.  The only difference is she will plug her ears and randomly break into song.

I am also extremely competitive and have a passion for sports.  You will see me coaching youth football and doing my best not to relive the glory days through my children.  I do enjoy coaching as I get to be a part of the sport and interact with the kids. The kids are phenomenal - they try as hard as they can and at times can be hilarious.  Really when you get down to the point, I get to feel good about giving back and contributing to the community.

As I did my research and looked at the other articles, there seems to be a philosophical point to each or at least an inspirational quote.  I thought I would try my hand at this and try to leave you with something to think about.  But, before I sign off, please remember my door is open feel free to drop in, especially if you have a good movie quote or the name of a movie I need to see.

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Winston Churchill.

*The baby girl is the boss of the house, and I’m pretty sure she knows it.  I don’t think I’m real helpful with this.
