Reflections from Amy

Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough. ~ Oprah Winfrey

Although it is that point in the winter when we all get a little squirrelly and ready for spring and sunshine, there are a lot of really amazing things happening all around us if we just take the time to appreciate them. At Iowa Specialty Hospital we talk a lot about choosing your attitude, and it is a great concept, but can sometimes be hard to pull off. It is so easy to get sucked into the vortex of negativity. If you really stop to list the things you are grateful for, they are endless and that, if nothing else, should put a smile on your face.

The other concept that we stand by is transparency. I had an employee ask me the other day why the hospital in Belmond purchased the NAPA building and what was our plan for it. Great question and the answer: we didn’t purchase it. We were approached by the owner wanting to donate it to us. We are working through the legal aspects but we don’t have a plan for it at this time. The lesson: if you really want to know something, then ask. I can’t promise you will always like the answer, but I can promise you will get an answer. I truly believe that we are fortunate to work in an organization that promotes transparency as it is not the typical business structure. One of the many things that I would expect to see on your list of things you are grateful for is your life!

One of the main reasons that we lose our enthusiasm in life is because we become ungrateful… we let what was once a miracle become common to us. We get so accustomed to His goodness it becomes a routine… ~ Joel Osteen
