Reflections from Amy

April 16, 2015

No type has everything. The introverts and thinkers, though likely to arrive at the most profound decisions, may have the most difficulty in getting their conclusions accepted. The opposite types are best at communicating, but not as adept at determining the truths to be communicated.  ~ Isabel Briggs Myers

We had LDI this past week, and, as with all of these quarterly sessions, we worked really hard on making ourselves better leaders. This time we worked on delving deeper into our Myers-Briggs personality types and focused on our communication, conflict, and change management styles. Hopefully, your leaders will share his/her personality type information with you as it is pretty fascinating. One of the things we learned is that no matter what your personality type, we need to remember that communication for every type includes these four elements:

  • Telling others what kind of information you need

  • Asking others what they need

  • Monitoring your impatience when other styles dominate

  • Realizing that others likely are not trying to annoy you when they use their own   communication style

We also learned that it takes every personality type to make us the team we are today. We all have strengths and weaknesses, and it is because we work together and build on the strengths of each other that we can be successful. This week has been an illustration of exactly that concept. With everyone working together for the good of our patients, we can truly change lives. I am so proud of the work that each and every one of us does every day. You are making a difference; it is up to you if it is a negative difference or a positive difference.

Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.  ~ Helen Keller
