Reflections from Amy

March 5, 2015

We're so busy watching out for what's just ahead of us that we don't take time to enjoy where we are. ~ Bill Watterson

I had the opportunity to spend the day with my kids today and enjoy some free time. We didn’t do anything too special, but at the end of the day they said it was the best day. We watched a movie in the morning and then in the afternoon we ventured to Story City and went to some little shops downtown and then to Webster City for more little shops and to take the girls to dance. Back home for haircuts and then ended the night with a tea party. It reminds me that it is the small things in life that matter the most. Those are the moments that we will remember.

This also applies to the care we provide to our patients. It is the comforting squeeze of a hand, the smile in greeting, and the encouraging words that make the biggest impact to our patients. Don’t underestimate the difference you make in the care you provide. Just your smile alone can brighten someone’s day. Stop and enjoy the small moments.

You were given life; it is your duty (and also your entitlement as a human being) to find something beautiful within life, no matter how slight. ~ Elizabeth Gilbert
