My theme for this week is change and challenging ourselves to grow. I had a wonderful opportunity last week to present a scholarship at the Belmond-Klemme Community High School awards night. Any of you that know me well know that I really don’t enjoy public speaking. To be perfectly honest it terrifies me. However, I continue to accept the opportunity for personal growth and development in this area. So, I took Shaila with me to the ceremony thinking if she sat where I could see her than at least I would have someone to focus on. Of course immediately upon arrival she ditched me for her friends and when I presented she was nowhere to be seen. After it was all said and done she told me I did a great job! I asked if she could hear my voice shake to which she replied “Yep”! So, needless to say I continue to have opportunity for growth in public speaking!
As a healthcare organization we are constantly in a state of rapid change. One of the advantages that we have as a smaller system is that we can move quickly whichever direction we need for continued success. Change is everywhere in our lives and it is what pushes us to be better in the care we provide as well as the outcomes we expect. As Kirk discussed at the QEMs we are looking at a possible change in computer systems. Your initial thought may be dread and despair, but somewhere inside of each of us we have to know that we did learn a lot the last time around and it is bound to be easier this time. As always, the only thing we control is our attitude and reaction to things. So, I challenge you to chose wisely and embrace the changes that we have coming as you have an incredible opportunity to shape the future of the healthcare we provide.
