Notes from Steve

February 1, 2018

Today is the last day of January, which ranks right up there on my list of favorite days. And the reason is that I hate January.  My all time favorite day is the last day of February because it is the farthest away from January and February possible.  “Why don’t you vacation somewhere warm during those months?”  Two reasons why I usually don’t : 1. I get stuck in the airport because of bad weather and 2. It allows me to really appreciate the other ten months.  (really bad coffee makes you appreciate really good coffee)

My coach and I were talking about Winnie the Pooh today.  Not Pooh necessarily but Tigger.  Tigger is the bouncy tiger that drives everyone crazy with his “too much energy”.  I’m feeling very much like that as of late … and I might be driving people crazy.  Someone once told me to “cool it on the sense of urgency (i.e. drama)”  but I don’t know.  I think that if we don’t have Tiggers in our lives, things will probably get done, but perhaps maybe not with as much drama.*  And that relates to success … and good times … at least in the book the way I read it.

The RAGBRAI announcement party was last week and as I surveyed the crowd I thought to myself (probably aloud) … “everyone is old here.”**  The interesting thing with the 400+ mile trip across Iowa on a bicycle is that there are a lot of us folks trying to recapture our youth by this challenge. AND … that’s awesome.  I would rather push myself to do something a little hard than plop myself in front of the TV and binge watch the rest of my life.  Before I know it, I’ll really be old or hurt or challenged in some way.  It’s best to make hay while sun shines!!!

* from wiki: “Tigger is always filled with great energy and optimism, and though always well-meaning, he can also be mischievous, and his actions have sometimes led to chaos and trouble for himself and his friends.”  So, sorry in advance.

** my age.
