Notes from Steve

October 22, 2015

I had a banjo for awhile.  It was the loudest thing ever.  I really tried to like it but no matter what, it was just loud and twangy.  Kudos to the banjo players of the world.  My sister loved the look of the Pacer car which is felt by many to be the ugliest car ever.  My dad thought the Dodge Dart (circa 1974) was supposed to be the best quality vehicle of its day … it was the worst.  I guess what I am saying is there is no accounting for taste … which explains Spam, black licorice and country music.*

Unfortunately, in life we have to do things that may initially displease us.  This would probably include eating weird vegetables and exercise.  Also, church and work.  But as you move through the list of displeasure at some point you may start to enjoy the lowly brussel sprout**.  And after running for awhile – your body and mind weirdly crave the “runner’s high”; it becomes strangely amazing.  And church?  I’ve had many a moment of ethereal alterations at church (not quite mind bending but some nice moments).  And work?  It is our goal to make this a pretty good experience.

Next month we are going to ask you what we can do to make this a better place to spend most of your waking hours.  It is called the engagement survey and what does it mean to be engaged?  When looking at companies that have awesome engagement a lot of them have chefs and trainers (because of the chefs I would imagine) and staff massage therapists and great communication and CEO’s who give out candy.  Let us know honestly what we can do to really go above and beyond and be awesomely awesome.  If its candy – that’s cool, what kind?  (personally, milk duds and bit o’ honey would win me over any day … just sayin’)

*IN MY MIND.

**butter, garlic, brown sugar and soy sauce … steamed and caramelized.
