 The Great Lakes

The Great Lakes spell out the word HOMES*.  I learned this in grade school and I’ll never forget it.  Also – a bunch of other stuff by rote … it’ll be with me until I die.  I was having lunch with Tom yesterday and we were talking about the “new math” and how different it is, and how it makes our kids’ minds work like computers.  Really?   I suppose there is some reason to change – if we don’t change our thinking with regards to how we learn and think, the world would still be flat and tomatoes would be poison.

We are quick to assume that we are all that and a bag of chips but soon, in the very near future, we will find out something (I don’t know what it is) that will rock our worlds.  We will discover a truth that is as big as “the world is not flat - it is round!!!”  – maybe like … chocolate and salt cure cancer**.  It happens.  Things (that we have taken for granted all of our lives or lived without like smart phones) will happen and life as we know it will change; again.

I think the only thing we can do is hang on and prepare for change.  We need to be open and aware and understand that all this fancy new stuff*** will add to our life experience and not take away.  Patience and grace will help us as evolution happens.  I remember trying to teach my dad on how to double click a mouse.  “click click” I’d say.  “ca … lic … K!  ca … lic … K!!”  he’d do.  “There is no way I will ever be able to move into the computer age because of this …” he’d say.  And he didn’t – he lived without a computer, he wrote his secret code on his ATM card because he’d forget otherwise, and he reluctantly carried a flip phone.  Had he lived longer I’m sure he would have caught on – but not without a fight.

I guess what I am saying is that life is evolving at a really fast pace and it won’t stop because we are either not prepared or we refuse to accept the change.  Giddy up kiddos!!  #lifehappens
