Iowa Specialty Hospital

Notes from Steve

July 15, 2019

There are times that really test us.  Good times, bad times, tragic events, celebrations … our ability to muddle through the best to toughest times is what makes us, us.  I feel so bad for Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics right now.  We had to say goodbye to one of our own recently.  We are such a great group who really care for each other.  Our “tribe” is special and strong.  I’m sorry we are hurting.  Julia will be missed.

I have the privilege of meeting with the new employees during orientation.  I talk about the story of how we came to be.  I talk about the support and love given to each other throughout difficult times.  (In all times actually.)  We celebrate life -- sometimes with laughter and sometimes with tears.  Our Standards of Behavior require us to do some things we aren’t (probably) initially comfortable with.  But, with time, forced smiling turns genuine and going above and beyond for our teammates becomes routine.

As we reflect on the loss of our friend; take this opportunity be grateful for each other.  Let’s not take for granted the quiet heroes who come to work day in and day with a smile and love in their heart.  Reach out and appreciate … live without regret.
