I had Jordan pick me up candy for Beggar’s night* as she was getting some for senior leadership to hand out tomorrow.  I asked her get stuff that kids would like.  (I was thinking “good candy, like Snickers and Almond Joy.”)  She bought me sour candies and Laffy Taffy because that’s what the kids like.  Ugh.  The good thing is…I won’t eat them.  The bad thing is … I don’t like them.  What is wrong with these kids today??

You all read of my mishap last week - where the phone wasn’t completely hung up.  (I am now blaming the phone and not myself for this blunder.)  What I didn’t say was that the call I was still on (muted on their end - I couldn’t hear them but everything I said was clear as day to every member on that conference call) was a board from the Iowa Hospital Association made up of CEO’s and staff from IHA and my call was to my personal coach.  So they heard about 10 minutes of my normal griping about everything - probably including them.  I was completely stunned into silence (this never happens) after Jordan was alerted and rescued me by hanging up my phone properly.  Please think of this when you are slightly embarrassed by something minor.  This was a huge gaffe, and I have come to the conclusion that it will take a good year for me to get over it.

Someone asked me why I’m so transparent with my issues.  “I’d just ignore it and pretend it didn’t happen.” The thing is - it did happen.  When there are life situations that cause you to look like an idiot, and you can potentially help someone else avoid the same thing - be a sport and share.  If someone said to me - make sure if you are on a conference call and if you hang up make sure that there are no lights on anywhere on your phone because you may still be on the call … I would have appreciated that bit of knowledge.  The more you know.

*In Sioux City - we had Halloween on Halloween. Beggar’s night … I never heard of this until I moved over here.  I still don’t get it.  I don’t celebrate New Year’s Eve on the 30th … Christmas is the 25th not the 24th or the 26th, Thanksgiving - same time every year.  Nope.  Doesn’t make sense to me.
