Happy Valentine’s Day
On Valentine’s Day 20 years ago I married the love of my life. We were married three months after our first date in the exact same spot we met, Hotel Ft. Des Moines gift shop. We knew we would marry each other about 2 weeks in, but we didn’t want to shock our families so we “waited” three months! Since we had children immediately and are now empty nesters, we are actually headed on our honeymoon now (20 years later). We have made a great team. We have helped each other through tough times and celebrated many victories together. We have grown as individuals and as a couple. That growth has translated into all areas of my life and has served as a template for me to be a better doctor, friend and professional. I think that is what marriage was intelligently designed for. It is appropriate that Shelly and I met in a gift shop because she has been my greatest gift.
I pray that you took a moment on February 14th to really appreciate “your person”. If not, do it today. Put your phone down, look them in the eyes and tell them what they mean to you! May God bless you and yours.
