I’m a native Nebraskan and I’m proud of that, but I’m an Iowan now and have been since 1998. Have you ever stopped to really notice how beautiful Iowa is? This is something Dr. Conte asked me in the car last week. Actually, I have! No two sunrises are the same, and they are all beautiful. The fields are a beautiful green in the spring and are golden brown at harvest. Shelly and I rode our bikes on the high trestle trail between Madrid and Woodward this week. The bridge over the Des Moines River valley is a sight to see and actually has breathtaking views. I’m just overwhelmed with thankfulness! I’m so blessed to live in Iowa. (I had to hurry up and type that sentence before it turns 20 below!)
I’d like to thank a few people I was thinking about this morning: Dr. Palit for his intellectual curiosity and his sense of humor; Stacia, who often cleans my office; Josh squared (the two Joshes from IT) – solid dudes; same can be said for Brian Jensen; Dr Li, for your smile and easy going demeanor; Jon Hardersen and Dean Heideman for keeping it real in the OR and making it a joy for anyone to come in to work. There are many days I am thankful for people that I don’t say anything. These are just who it happened to be today. I’m going to make an attempt to express it more often.
I thank God for all the blessings in my life, especially Shelly and the kids, and our health. I have always thought of hospitals as safe, secure places of caring compassion and healing. That is why I always wanted to work in a hospital. I feel especially privileged to work in the 5 star Iowa Specialty Hospitals and Clinics. Have a fantastic weekend!
The best six doctors anywhere and no one can deny it
Are sunshine, water, rest and air, exercise and diet.
These six will gladly you attend if only you are willing
Your mind they’ll ease, your will they’ll mend
And charge you not a shilling.
