My wife’s favorite movie of all time is “It’s a Wonderful Life”. We watch it during the Christmas season every year (I recommend it. Doing this as it will keep you centered). We also like to watch “A Christmas Story”. Last year a package showed up on our front porch for me. It was marked “FRAGILE”. You guessed it; a leg lamp! I call it my “major award”, and (much to the horror of our children) it is displayed proudly in our front window. We always try to do something special each year as a family. We have done Living History Farms dinners, Escape Chambers, pottery painting, ice skating, etc. You name it and we have done it together. The kids know this time is special, and they look forward to it. This year we are invading Dr. Diamond’s house on New Year’s Eve. I think there will be 30 of us total. It should be a great time!
Christmas is a time to remember that we are loved, and loved profoundly by God. Shelly gave me the “Ragamuffin Gospel” by Brennan Manning about a month ago. It eloquently describes this love. It feels good to know that none of us are perfect, and we really can’t EARN God’s love.
One might think that this Christmas might be particularly difficult for our family, but I don’t think so. I think we are going to appreciate each other more than ever. It feels good to know that we are going through this life together! There will be wins and losses, but we will be together and that is what really matters.
May God Bless my Iowa Specialty family. My heart took a big hit this year, but thanks to my wife and kids, and you guys, I have never been alone. Merry Christmas to you all!
