The art of alchemical experimentation simultaneously reaches its most superfluous redundancy and it’s most illustrious summit with the creation of the homunculus*.
“Homunculus*” means “an artificially made dwarf, supposedly made in a flask by an alchemist.” Most connotations describe the dwarf as a miniature version of one’s self. Our son, Hunter, calls his debate partner (Parker) his homunculus*. That is because Hunter comes up with creative new arguments or ideas and expects Parker to jump on board and he usually does. They won a state championship that way!
However, I think the opening statement (provided by Hunter) means that you are really not creating anything new. So that after all that “alchemy” brought to a successful creation, it was really not that great. My take home message: There should only be ONE you. I’m trying to be the best version of me I can, as are most of you. I’ll be no one’s homunculus*! Right now, I am being purposeful about that – in all areas of my life. My desire is to live this life to the fullest! I am trying to be a little better version of myself than I was the day before. At work, I’m asking for grace in that. My job has a lot of moving parts and always will. I am trying to be more patient and communicate better.
*I bet you will try to work the word “homunculus” into a conversation cause it’s fun to say!
