Normally the last week of July is when we take a family vacation. If you know my wife, this is pretty much mandatory. The vacation usually involves my wife and I, our oldest daughter (Hope) and her husband, as well as our youngest daughter (Eden) and her boyfriend. We pick this time of year since it works best with most of our schedules. My oldest daughter is a teacher so she has her summers mostly free, and our youngest in the past was on summer break from college. This also usually involves us going to a resort somewhere on a beach where we relax by the pool, play sand volleyball, and do some adventures.
However, this year was different. Hope had a little girl in March, and we decided it probably didn’t make sense to travel with such a little one. In addition, Eden as well as her boyfriend, graduated from college and started new jobs and didn’t have any vacation time earned yet. Needless to say, we did not take a vacation. Instead we had to pivot and improvise (see picture below of our 4-month old granddaughter in the cheap outdoor pool we bought). Adjusting to new things can be just as rewarding though!
At Iowa Specialty Hospitals and Clinics, we have to pivot all the time. Whether it be a payer changing “the rules” on us or supply and construction costs dramatically increasing, we need to be able to adjust to these things. Luckily at ISH, we have a team that can change quickly, and to be honest, is usually the first to implement something. I thank all of you for being able to embrace the change!
Until next time...
