When you consistently take daring actions, pretty soon you will have very little direct competition. Because most businesses are scared of doing anything really different, you will stand out hugely from your competitors. Iowa Specialty Hospitals and Clinics is known for Being Daring. This mindset has allowed ISH to grow in ways most rural hospitals could not think was possible. Where would we be if we didn’t Dare to add service lines like ortho, OB/GYN, or bariatrics, or have two critical access hospitals work closely together, or add additional clinics?
Likewise, Daring leadership involves reminding employees of their purpose and the value they provide through their work. We are so fortunate that we have great staff at ISH doing worthwhile work that makes a difference. Our patients recognize all of the hard work and attention EVERY department provides to make it the best place for patients to receive care.
To Be Daring, we need to continually practice our values and self-awareness and approach our work with curiosity. Accountants (CFOs) are typically known for being more conservative than other positions within a business. I do feel, however, that I do this a little better than most accountants. I challenge you all to Be Daring. The key is knowing the difference between Risky and a Calculated Risk.
