Greg's Greeting

August 30, 2018

Yesterday I, along with other senior leaders and Sara Goemaat, attended the funeral of Amy McDaniel’s father-in-law.  It was a beautiful ceremony honoring the life of a true family man.  Chuck McDaniel’s life was very impressive.  Equally impressive, however, was the fact that Amy’s twin boys (Andrew and Jacob) performed the duties as altar boys during the funeral of their grandfather.  As I watched them serve I couldn’t help but think how strong these two young men must be.  They did an awesome job and I am sure made their grandfather very proud.

The twins got me thinking about things we must do throughout our lives.  At times the things asked of us may not be easy, they may not be something we enjoy, they may not even be something we think we can handle but with the help of one another we can persevere and succeed.  I have always liked the quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson that says, “What lies behind you and what lies in front of you pales in comparison to what lies inside of you.”  Andrew and Jacob, thanks for reminding me how strong we can be when we have to be.

Until next time……
