Amy's Reflections

October 19, 2017

I am even thankful for the negative things that have made me a stronger and better person. ~ Joanna Krupa

Nancy Gabrielson used to always say “Be the better person” and it truly stuck with me. This is probably the phrase that Shaila hears the most at our house regardless of the situation. Sometimes the high road is a difficult path, but you always feel better in the end when you take the high road. This lesson seems to be especially relevant as we navigate these teen years. I know that all of these life lessons will help her grow into an amazingly strong woman someday.

I recently saw a post that stated “She understood that the hardest times in life to go through were when she was transitioning from one version of herself to another.” This is an interesting thought to explore. What if we took those challenging times, and those challenging people, and look at them as a growth opportunity in ourselves? Instead of being mad and wanting to avoid the difficult challenges, what if we embraced those challenges? This week’s challenge for you is to pick a time when you are frustrated or angry, and pause and look at it with a different lens. See if you can find the personal growth in the situation instead of just the anger. You may be surprised how quickly the situation resolves when you approach it from a “can do” attitude. Have a wonderful week!
