Amy's Reflections

October 25, 2018

Rick and I just celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary this week. We actually went on a date out to supper just the two of us to celebrate. It was nice to have time to just visit and not be running to some kid activity.  We laughed about the little things that went wrong either at the wedding or the reception, and it was fun to think back to that time. Fun fact, our parents were both married on 10/23/1965 and we were married 34 years later on the same date. So we always take a moment on our anniversary and thank them for being such good role models to us. It is always nice to take time to be thankful for your roots and where you come from as it has definitely shaped who you are and where you are going.

Often times in healthcare we are too “busy” to take time to appreciate the incredible teamwork, care, and compassion that goes on all around us on any given day. I was able to witness this first hand recently when I came to the ER to be with a family member during a recent trauma. You all work together so seamlessly, and in such a well-orchestrated dance, that I wish you could see it from the non-clinical family member perspective.  It is truly a sight to behold.  Of course I am somewhat biased, but I firmly believe that we have some of the most amazing staff in the world. I can’t tell you the comfort and solace you provide by just being you. My challenge to you this week is to stop and truly appreciate the amazing teamwork that happens all around you.
