Amy's Reflections

September 30, 2019

We are starting to settle into our back to school routine. Shaila is getting the hang of college and balancing work, classes, and cheerleading. The boys have adjusted to being in a different building and moving classes throughout the day and Maleigha is really enjoying being in a school without any siblings. At this point we have achieved organized chaos. Although it is a hectic time, I am really enjoying this time with the kids. They are all starting to pursue things that interest them. Jacob is in football and loving every minute of it. Andrew is super excited to participate in the robotics club. Miss Maleigha is busy in dance and can’t wait for basketball to start later this fall. It is fun to see them become more confident in themselves and what they are passionate about. It can be easy as a parent to get caught up in wanting your children to love things you loved or pursue an opportunity that you never had, but it is so much more fulfilling to watch them excel in something they truly love.

What is that old saying; if you do what you truly love you never work a day in your life. Steve and I had the opportunity to attend the quarterly CEO meeting at the University of Iowa this month. It is always nice to benchmark the other facilities and discuss ways to improve healthcare across the state.  We were able to share our work with improving mental health services in our area as well as what we are doing with telehealth. I found it interesting that the other facilities didn’t have any plans in these areas. I am so grateful to work in an organization that is always pushing forward and working on improving the care and the health of our patients.  We left the meeting counting our blessings and being thankful for the work we do and the people we get to do it with. Thank you for all that you do.
