Amy's Reflections

July 18, 2022

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to help with my niece’s wedding, which consisted of pretty much all of my time from Thursday through Sunday. It was an outdoor wedding so it was definitely warm, but everything came together so nicely that it ended up being a really beautiful day. I am grateful that I was able to be a part of this special time in her life. A few lessons learned this weekend: many hands make light work; sometimes it is good to be bossy; sometimes it is good to step back and let others shine; and sometimes it is important to take a few minutes to yourself.

Interestingly enough, I believe these same lessons apply to healthcare. If it wasn’t for our incredible teams we wouldn’t be able to provide the exceptional care that we do. It truly takes all of us to make the experience smooth for the patients. Often times in healthcare, we need to step up and take the lead to accomplish what we need to get done. However, sometimes we need to take a minute and gather other ideas and suggestions and let others lead. And finally, there is probably nowhere that it is more important than in healthcare to take a few minutes and pause to take care of yourself.  We definitely can’t serve from an empty bucket. This week, I would like to challenge you to find a co-worker and give them the space to shine. Let them run with an idea or praise them for their help. It will make you both feel better. Have a wonderful week, team!
