Amy's Reflections

December 20, 2021

I really don’t know what to say about 2021, other than it has been a wild ride. I was telling someone the other day that I feel like 2022 is going to be so much better. They looked at me with a fair amount of skepticism, but I persevered. I truly believe that our outlook is dependent on our attitude about the situation. Often we are our own worst enemy with a focus on all that could go wrong and lose sight of all of the wonderful things happening around us. This year has definitely challenged me and my attitude many times over. Like the storms from this past week. What crazy weather to have in the middle of December. There were many of our team members affected by those storms, and it makes me sad that they have to go through this. On the other hand, I am grateful for their safety and that they are supported by their large ISH family.

Healthcare in 2021 has definitely taken a toll on each and every one of us. I was on an ACO board meeting the other night, and the other 11 board members are spread out across the United States. It was interesting to listen to their challenges and struggles and find we are all in the same boat. The medical director for the ACO shared the struggle of providers across the nation with burnout. He encouraged us to all listen; listen with our ears and listen with our hearts. We are in this together, and we are all tired. Lift someone up when you can, and lean on someone when you need to. This is our calling, and we must not lose sight of what drew us to healthcare in the first place. My wish for you this week is peace in your heart with the knowledge that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May your 2022 be filled with joy and blessings.
