One of my favorite sayings is “She believed she could, so she did”. I talk to my kids a lot about the power of positivity and the belief that they can do anything they put their minds too. I also balance that with a healthy dose of anything worth having is worth working for to make sure they understand it takes a lot of work to chase your dreams. A couple of weeks ago, Maleigha participated in a Queen Contest for a horse show. There were 12 girls in her division with many of them having much more experience in riding. There were four parts to this contest, an interview, a rail class, a pattern and then a queen salute. She was pretty nervous but confident going into the contest as she had been working a lot with her horse and “believed” she could win. I tried to reinforce that it was a beautiful day and she got the opportunity to ride her horse, and participate so come what may it would be a good day. All 12 of the girls did a wonderful job, and it was definitely fun to watch them. Well, she believed she could win and she did. Don’t get me wrong, she worked really hard too, but the judges shared that what separated first and second place was confidence in the interview portion.
I believe this is also what sets Iowa Specialty Hospitals and Clinics apart. We truly believe we can accomplish anything. I have said many times, especially over the past several years, that we have some of the most talented staff in the world. One of our leaders recently shared in a meeting that she challenged her team to change the face of healthcare. That is definitely something I want to be a part of in my career. If at the end of this journey I can look back and smile knowing that I made a difference, it will all be worth it. So, my challenge for this week is to really embrace innovative solutions and changes to how we provide care or do our jobs. I can’t wait to see the impact you all make! ISH is a force to be reckoned with, and I am so thankful to be a part of the evolution of healthcare.
