Amy's Reflections

January 25, 2018

"We are each gifted in a unique and important way. It is our privilege and our adventure to discover our own special light." ~ Mary Dunbar

I was having lunch with my kids a couple of weeks ago and we were discussing their "gifts." They eagerly asked me what I thought each of their gifts were in relation to each other. I shared with Jacob that he has the sweetest heart and is very thoughtful and this is his gift in life. Andrew on the other hand has perfect comedic timing and can make you laugh at the drop of a hat. Shaila shared that she thought her gift was sarcasm which made me laugh out loud. Miss Maleigha is very in tune to people's feelings and is a champion for the weak. In this world filled with judgement and negativity it was nice to have a discussion focused around something positive.

We all have different gifts and we should take the time to cultivate and share our gifts with others. As health care providers you are in a profession where you share your gifts daily with your patients. It can be the warm, welcoming smile that puts someone at ease. It could be a simple "hi" in the hallway that puts a smile on someone's face. We are rarely lucky enough to know the impact that we make on others but the impact is significant all the same. So my challenge to you this week is to acknowledge your gifts and then share them freely with others. The world will be a better place for it.

"Use what talent you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best." ~ Henry Van Dyke
