Amy's Reflections

June 9, 2016

Unity is strength. . . when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved. - Mattie Stepanek

I would like to start this week by giving acknowledgement to all of the single parents out there. I attempted to be a single parent for one week while Rick and Shaila were gone, and it was definitely overwhelming. I commend you for your strength, your determination, and your commitment as you are indeed a special group of people.

I learned several important lessons last week as follows:

           • A great support system is critical to success

           • Organization is key to keeping everything covered

           • Routine and structure actually make life easier

We actually settled into a routine by the end of the week, and it really was not too bad. However, I have a much better appreciation for the contributions Rick makes to our family. I am also very thankful for a good friend that allowed me to be in two places at once.

As I reflect on the lessons above, I am reminded that these hold true for work as well. We are fortunate to have an incredible support system within our organization. Having someone to lean on in the tough times and celebrate the good times with makes it all so much easier. Most of us appreciate knowing what is expected of us, and this is most usually accomplished with routine and structure. So, as we continue to experience significant change in the healthcare world over the next several years, these three bullets will guide us in the right direction.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.
