Iowa Specialty Hospital offers a Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Respiratory Rehabilitation program at both our Belmond and Clarion facilities.

What is the difference in Pulmonary and Respiratory Rehabilitation? Pulmonary rehabilitation is designed to benefit patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This includes patients with emphysema and/or chronic bronchitis.  Respiratory rehabilitation is designed to benefit patients suffering from other chronic lung diseases such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, neuromuscular diseases, pulmonary hypertension, and other restrictive diseases.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week was initiated by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). Its purpose is to educate the community about the role of pulmonary/respiratory rehabilitation in enhancing the quality of life of individuals with chronic lung disease. This year’s theme, “The Results Will Blow You Away,” honors individuals who struggle to overcome shortness of breath, and the pulmonary professionals who work every day to alleviate that struggle and improve patients’ everyday life.

At Iowa Specialty Hospital, our Pulmonary and Respiratory Rehabilitation program is held twice weekly, normally for six to eight weeks. The program includes exercise and educational topics to help our patients breathe better and enhance the quality of their lives.

If you are someone who is living with chronic lung disease and want to breathe better and enjoy life’s activities more, contact your health care provider if you are interested in receiving the benefits of this program.  If you know someone who is living with a chronic lung disease, please spread the word about this available treatment option.
